Emily Parise

  • Dramaturgy

Emily holds a PhD in Drama and Theatre, with an emphasis in Dramaturgy, from The University of California, Irvine. Her research interests include early modern theatre, Shakespeare, dramaturgy, performance theory, and adaptation. Her dissertation, “Visible Bullets: Subversive Stage Properties in Shakespeare’s English and Roman History Plays,” examines how the political potential of Shakespeare's history plays is made visible through the stage and its properties. Her work has been published by Early Theatre, Shakespeare Bulletin, and Palgrave. She has served as the production dramaturg on a number of plays and musicals, including King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, and Legally Blonde. In addition to her scholarship and dramaturgical work, Emily is a founding member of the Shakespeare Association of America Graduate Committee and a UCI Pedagogical Scholar.
