The MA degree in Theatre Studies is a 31 hour pre-doctoral program. MA students must pass a thesis proposal process to qualify for the second year of study. Completion of the degree requires successful defense of a written thesis on a topic of theatre history, dramatic literature, and/or theatre theory.
MA in Theatre Studies students will generally receive tuition wavers of 25-75%. Some full waivers are possible. MA students are eligible to seek paid graduate assistantships around campus.
MFA in Directing students are generally offered full tuition waivers plus stipends for graduate assistantships within the Department of Theatre Arts. If serving as Graduate Assistants in theatre, students will be given research, production, and teaching responsibilities.
We welcome visits by prospective graduate students. Contact Dr. David Jortner to schedule a visit to see our theatre facilities, meet the faculty, and spend time with current graduate students.
